Boat crashes onto Newport Beach shore, no injuries reported – OCRegister

NEWPORT BEACH — A 30-foot-long boat crashed onto the beach Sunday night but did not cause any injuries to the four people onboard, sheriff’s Sgt. John Hollenbeck said on Monday.

Three adults and one child were on their way back from Catalina Island when the electronics on the boat failed. The boat hit shore between 11th and 12th streets in Newport Beach on Sunday, June 4, with the four aboard safely jumping off, Hollenbeck said.

The boat was pulled out of the water with a crane and put onto a flatbed truck about 3 p.m. on Monday, June 5, Hollenbeck said.

Authorities considered pushing the boat, apparently seaworthy, back out to sea, but the surf was too strong at the time.
